DownloadSquad reports that \"Oddly, you <a href=\"http:\/\/mail.google.com\/support\/bin\/answer.py?ctx=%67mail&hl=en&answer=35877\">need to have Flash enabled<\/a> in order to hear the ping\".  Not exactly odd to me, as I <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.codedread.com\/archives\/2006\/04\/20\/audio-in-web-pages\/\">mentioned before<\/a>, there's no nice cross-browser way to do sound in the browser currently without using Flash.  Kudos to Macromedia\/Adobe for being so widely deployed and useful in this context.  If <span class=\"definition\" title=\"adjective applied in a RELATIVE fashion here\">nimble<\/span> browser development camps like Mozilla could follow <a href=\"http:\/\/virtuelvis.com\/archives\/2006\/04\/opera-9-beta\">Opera's lead<\/a> on implementing HTML5's <a href=\"http:\/\/whatwg.org\/specs\/web-apps\/current-work\/#scs-sound\">Audio interface<\/a> this would be a Good Thing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Looks like Google Chat has implemented sound notifications.
