One or two more interesting bits appeared on the newsstand in December 1959. This time, it&#8217;s the debut of Aqualad, a predictable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.codedread.com\/comicbooks\/?p=3947\">sidekick for Aquaman<\/a>. Aqualad is never given a name in this first story, but harkening back to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.codedread.com\/comicbooks\/?p=3947\">story of Aquagirl<\/a>, Aquaman explains to him that his purple eyes means he is a &#8220;rejected specimen&#8221; from Atlantis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aqualad explains that he&#8217;s had a fear of fish all his life.
