In Green Lantern #9 (September 1961), Hal’s nemesis, Sinestro, makes his second appearance, complete with villainous exposition explaining how he escaped that green bubble they trapped him in last time<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our hero, Hal Jordan, is looking forward to the first GL Con… “the first galaxy-wide conference of all power battery possessors”. That’s kind of interesting, I wonder why it took so long to arrange? The inaugural meeting is being held on the planet Yquem. Sinestro traps our Green Lantern on Earth, disguises himself as Hal and streaks off to Yquem where we get a chance to see some other wacky Green Lanterns… fodder for future stories, I’d imagine? Tomar-Re<\/a> even gets a one-panel cameo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hal Jordan eventually escapes from Sinestro’s trap and races off to battle with Sinestro who, by this time, has fooled all the Green Lanterns of the galaxy and stole a bunch of their ring power for his own. Off he has gone to Oa to defeat the Guardians of the Universe. Hal manages to overload Sinestro’s ring and defeat him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest of the galaxy’s Lanterns show up on Oa, the Guardians charge up their rings, and together everyone imprisons Sinestro once again in a … green bubble. This time to “orbit the universe” a journey that will take “eighteen billion years”. Something tells me Sinestro will be back a bit before then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
