Action Comics #284 (November 1961) wraps up the long-running Supergirl serial of stories that began in early 1961 with a carryover of the last three effects of red kryptonite from the previous issue, one of which is to turn her into a mermaid. Jerro takes this opportunity to propose, which leaves Supergirl briefly speechless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest of the tale is pretty un-memorable, though we do learn that Mxyzptlk’s enchantments have worn off and Supergirl is vulnerable to Green K again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But one announcement is given, a bit of a cliffhanger for readers, but that Superman has finally, once and for all, really finally and truly, big-blue-scout’s-honor going to reveal her existence to the world. About time! He kind of dangled that over her (and the readership)’s head for too long. But it will be another one of those continuity-changed-forever kind of moments if it actually happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
