Thor gains a supporting cast member in his next adventure in Journey into Mystery #84 (July 1962): Jane Nelson<\/a> (not Foster, yet). Jane is Dr. Donald Blake’s sweet, easily-smitten girl who doesn’t have much to do, keeping in that early 1960s Marvel tradition of very poorly written female characters (looking at you, Sue Storm).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Blake volunteers to help out the unfortunate people of San Diablo, who are fighting against a warlord named “The Executioner”. The Executioner sends some war planes against the ship. Donald sneaks away, turns into Thor, and neatly dispatches them.<\/p>\n\n\n

Upon arriving in San Diabo, they are attacked with tanks. Once again Thor makes an appearance to show you how it’s done.<\/p>\n\n\n

Donald Blake \/ Thor wraps it all up in a bow and eventually he and Jane return home to cast unrequited glances in each other’s direction while Jane makes some comments about how Thor is such a he-man.
