Another fixture of the Silver Age debuts in July 1954: Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen. This comic book appeared largely due to his popularity in the “Adventures of Superman” television series. It features Jimmy Olsen getting into trouble with lots of appearances of Superman (only two panels of a brown-haired Lois Lane in this first issue though).
A well-established trope of the comic book is featured in Issue #1 as well: Jimmy Olsen’s signal watch, in which he can send an ultra-sonic distress call to Superman.
I never was a fan of the comic book or the character, really – too gimmicky and goofy for me – but I am excited about the upcoming end of the “Early Silver” age!
