Another DC newcomer in Showcase #17 (Sept 1958) in Adam Strange. Archaeologist Adam Strange accidentally leaps into a Zeta beam striking Earth at just the right moment and finds himself on the planet Rann. After being put through the “Menticizer”, he is able to understand the language and that the babe is Allana and the bald-headed creepy scientist is her farther Sardath. Weird that the people of Rann call their sun “Alpha Centauri” huh?
Adam Strange was created by Julius Schwartz and stories were written by Gardner Fox, re-surfacing from the Golden Age to become a prominent player in DC’s Silver Age (he would re-tool his Justice Society concept in a couple more years as the Justice League). In this first issue, Adam’s hair alternates between reddish brown and blonde – get it right Murphy Anderson! 🙂
