In the fifth story in the “Imaginary Tales” series in Lois Lane #26 (May 1961), Lana reveals to Superman she knows his secret identity. It turns out she is noble about this and wants him to erase her memory with his super-hypnotism. Surprisingly (to me), this causes Superman to suddenly fall madly in love with Lana and forget all about Lois, gives us this money shot.
Then we follow this romantic couple and a side-lined Lois Lane throughout their marriage. Superman has a solution to the problem of his enemies wanting to take revenge on his wife, by giving her a serum that permanently gives her super-powers. Alas, this serum will not work on Lois Lane, whose blood type is different 🙂 But hey, we get a Lana-as-Superwoman shot too:
Unfortunately (?) this makes Lana even more powerful than Superman who has that pesky allergy to kryptonite. More than once, Lana has to save Superman from that green-K, giving Superman an inferiority complex. And we’ve seen how badly a depressed Superman goes.
So Lana does the only thing she can do: Abandon her husband forever by leaving the planet. Perfectly logical!
