My wife and I have recently been enjoying Scrubs - The Complete First Season on DVD. The writing and performances are top-notch, so why did it take until 2005 for it to be nominated for Best Comedy Series?

I only watch a couple television shows (My Name Is Earl, The Office), but Scrubs has always been a casual favourite of mine since the first season (2001-2002).

Sam and I finally got a babysitter and went out for a movie on Sunday night. We saw "The 40-Year Old Virgin" and we both really enjoyed it. Steve Carell plays Andy, the title character, who is lead through a series of misadventures by his new-found friends in attempt to deflower him, all the while he falls in love with Trish, a "hot grandma" played by Catherine Keener. The movie is hilarious. There were literally 8 people in the theatre (late night Sunday showing and the theatre's air conditioning was broken) but we were all laughing out loud and clapping at various points, which is weird because an empty theatre can sometimes kill the experience for me. Our library kicks ass. It's about 3 blocks away so it's often a place to take the boys and let them blow off steam looking at puzzles, playing with puppets or picking out books. We've even picked out some DVDs for them (mostly discs in the Baby Einstein series: Baby Mozart, Baby Newton and Baby Beethoven). The kids love those DVDs, but we have had a hard time keeping their TV watching to under 30-40 minutes/day (I know, still too much for 17-month olds, but c'est la vie). Seth MacFarlane's new animated TV show "American Dad" premiered tonight and it was god awful. It felt like a re-tread of an old Simpson's episode combined with a rip-off of The Family Guy. But it was missing the heart and likeable characters of The Simpsons and it was missing the abrupt and sometimes hilarious segues of The Family Guy. Instead we have silly jokes about homosexuality and racism with the occasional splash of nudity or blood. Read the rest of this entry ...
