Speaking of teamups and crossovers, DC decided to feature a crossover event of sorts between the Silver Age Green Lantern and The Flash in Green Lantern #13 (April 1962). Iris West needs to go interview that famous test pilot Hal Jordan on the west coast, so off Barry Allen goes to vacation with her.
At this point in time, neither hero knows the others identity, despite being founding members of the Justice League of America. This leads to our first “first” of the issue, where Barry Allen is peeping on Hal Jordan getting undressed in a cave (as one does) and learns Hal’s secret identity as Green Lantern.
Did people really say things like “Great Jumping Jupiter”?!?
It also happens that Green Lantern has just returned from space where some evil aliens have hypnotized him. This leads to a battle between the two JLA buddies, predictably resolving itself and the duo pairing up to defeat the evil aliens by story’s end. In a good turn, Flash reveals his identity to GL, cementing a nice lil friendship bond.
Looking ahead, I’m going to try to avoid turning this blog into “oh look, company X decided to pair character Y with character Z”. I thought this one was interesting, because this is the first in a planned series of team-ups between these two characters and also they learned of each other’s identities for the first time.
