Peter, very cool – thank you for the links! I was aware of HTML Purifier, but not that it had been turned into a WP plugin. Unfortunately it weighs in at around 1.6MB of PHP code – but perhaps if it’s only used for comment submission that won’t be serious server load.
Just wanted to drop you a line that I’m currently creating my own blog software that will be fully integrated with other parts of my site all being written by yours truly. I’ve already written beautiful code where WordPress required some ugly work-arounds.
There are a few HTML cleaning plugins, I haven’t tested them and I’m not sure they are exactly what you want, but they are probably worth a look:
