In Weird Science #21 (June 1953), the story “EC Confidential!” depicts Phineas T. Fables, the president of the fictional Fables Publishing Company calling Al Feldstein and William Gaines to his office to discuss the many weird coincidences of EC comic stories coming true. The president plans to fire them when Martians abruptly burst in and slaughter the entire staff. Thought it turns out that Feldstein and Gaines were ready for the Martians, planting decoys to fool them.
Sharks may have been circling EC Comics at this time as sales of their horror and sci-fi comics continued to climb…. maybe this story was a way of encouraging the writers, artists, etc to stick with EC as pressures from competitors began to mount?
