Remember that time Lois Lane had super powers and became a super-powered heroine until Superman put her in her place? Or that time when Lana Lang thought she had developed super powers until Superboy per her in her place? Well yet another plot permutation around this concept happens in Adventure Comics #189 (April 1953). This time, Lana Lang’s archaeologist father discovers a belt that grants Lana super-powers – she becomes “Sky Girl”. Superboy does a great job of man-splaining to Sky Girl how she’s not good enough.

Sky Girl actually does a pretty good job of using her powers for good and keeping her identity secret. But that’s not good enough for Clark, who eventually discovers that Sky Girl is Lana and puts her back in her place as a meek side-chick. Her father agrees that the belt has “outlived its usefulness”.

Superboy chucks the belt up into space so that it will float endlessly around. Brilliant and responsible deployment of technology, Kal-El!
